Renault Laguna III was first introduced to the public during the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show In September, with the sales beginning in October of the same year. The car was offered in 3 body styles: as a 5-door liftback, estate and a coupé (from 2008). The third generation is based on the Platform D, also used in Nissan Teana and Nissan Murano. A range of engines was available from a 1.6 petrol engine to a V6 diesel 3.0 dCi and petrol 3.5 V6 in the coupé. During the 2008 International Motor Show in Geneva a sports version, GT, was presented. It was available in both liftback and estate body styles. The most interesting technical aspect of the GT version was the 4Control system. It allowed for the rear wheels to turn (by up to 6°), in order to improve the driving experience in tight bends. At speeds below 60 km/h the rear wheels turned in opposite direction to the front wheels, while above 60 km/h they turned in the same direction. The facelifted version of the Laguna, traditionally called Phase 2, was presented at the 2010 Paris Motor Show, going on sale in November the same year. The modifications included better interior materials and slightly redesigned front and rear bumpers, similar to those from the GT version. In February 2012, due to a cost-reduction plan the Laguna (along with some other models) has been removed from the UK market. In 2013 the car underwent a second set of small modifications, mainly in the front part.
