Minęło raptem dwa i pół roku od debiutu, a Renault Austral już otrzymał pakiet zmian. Odświeżone oblicze rodzinnego SUVa ma pomóc w walce o nowych klientów.
W momencie debiutu w 2022 roku, Austral był bez cienia wątpliwości najbardziej dopracowanym kompaktowym SUVem jaki Renault kiedykolwiek zrobiło. Poprzeczka nie była ustawiona może szczególnie wysoko, gdyż poprzednicy, czyli Koleos i Kadjar byli mocno przeciętni, jednak Austral bronił się sam. Obiektywnie, był po prostu dobrym samochodem. Niestety, „dobry” okazał się niewystarczający w tym wysoce konkurencyjnym segmencie rynku.
Pomimo wielkich nadziei, wyniki sprzedaży modelu Austral były rozczarowujące. Poza Francją samochód pozostawał w tyle za wszystkimi głównymi rywalami spod znaku Kii, Nissana, Forda, Peugeota, Skody czy VW. Renault pewnie niechętnie to przyzna, ale Austral to na razie rynkowe rozczarowanie. Jakieś zmiany były więc ewidentnie konieczne.
Modyfikacje nie są przełomowe, ale widoczne. Na zewnątrz dostrzeżemy nowy przód inspirowany modelem Rafale. W przednich reflektorach zwiększono też liczbę elementów świetlnych LED z 12 do 20, co pozwoliło na zwiększenie ich efektywności. W tylnej części mamy nowy kształt świateł i lekko przeprojektowany zderzak. Producent wprowadził też nowe wzory felg i kolory lakierów (np. widoczny na zdjęciach odcień niebieski Outremer).
Najbardziej popracowano jednak nad komfortem. Dzięki zastosowaniu potrójnie laminowanych przednich i bocznych szyb, lepszych uszczelek oraz nowego kształtu bocznych lusterek, znacznie polepszył się komfort akustyczny. Według producenta obniżono hałas aż o 8 dB! Przeprojektowano też fotele, aby były wygodniejsze oraz poprawiono wykończenie kabiny.
Pod maską pracują te same silniki co wcześniej, ale dzięki zmianom w ich oprogramowaniu oraz oprogramowaniu skrzyni biegów, są teraz oszczędniejsze oraz cichsze. Zmianom uległo też zestrojenie zawieszenia. Znowu, z nastawieniem na komfort.
Renault odrobiło pracę domową. Poprawiło Australa tam gdzie trzeba, zostawiając jego wcześniejsze zalety. Na zawojowanie segmentu jest już raczej za późno, ale odświeżony Renault Austral na pewno jest teraz o wiele lepszym samochodem.
O miniaturze – Renault Austral
Poliftingowe Renault Austral to mój najnowszy nabytek. Autko pojawiło się niespodziewanie na stronie Renault Originals już pod koniec sierpnia. Razem z nim pojawiło się też poliftingowe Espace, ale na razie zdecydowałem się tylko na zakup mniejszego modelu. Głównym powodem był kolor. Model Australa w nowym kolorze niebieski Outremer wygląda bardzo ładnie, podczas gdy szaro-srebrny Espace nie wyróżnia się niczym szczególnym. Dlatego też postanowiłem zaczekać na inne wersje kolorystyczne.
Za miniaturkę Australa odpowiedzialny jest oczywiście Norev. Tak jak w przypadku innych nowych wypustów producenta, mamy osobno zamocowane lusterka co jest dużym plusem. Tradycyjnie mocną stroną jest powłoka lakiernicza. Kolor niebieski Outremer wygląda pięknie. Co ciekawe, Renault używało już tej nazwy w latach 90., lecz był to zupełnie inny odcień niebieskiego. Z mocnych stron należy też wymienić odwzorowanie grilla. Norev dobrze poradził sobie z jego misternym wzorem.
Jeśli chodzi o wady, to typowo już w Renault od Noreva brakuje wstecznego lusterka a koła są całe plastikowe. Tylne światła też rozczarowują – to po prostu pomalowany kawałek plastiku. Całkowicie czarne wnętrze razi tym razem mniej, bo w prawdziwym samochodzie również jest ciemne.

It’s only been two-and-a-half years since its launch, but the Renault Austral already received a set of upgrades. The family SUV’s refreshed look, is set to help in a bid to attract new buyers.
At the time of debut in 2022, the Austral was without a shadow of a doubt the most competent compact SUV Renault has ever produced. The bar wasn’t set particularly high perhaps, as its predecessors – the Koleos and the Kadjar – were firmly mediocre. Nevertheless, the Austral held its own. Objectively, it was just a good car. Unfortunately, “good” proved to not be enough in this highly competitive market sector.
Despite very high hopes, Austral’s sales figures were disappointing. Outside of France, the car has actually trailed behind all main rivals from Kia, Nissan, Ford, Peugeot, Skoda or VW. Renault probably won’t want to admit it, but the Austral has so far been a market disappointment. Consequently, some changes were clearly needed.
The tweaks are not groundbreaking, but easily visible. On the outside, we can see a new front end inspired by the Rafale. The number of LED light elements in the front headlights was also increased from 12 to 20, which has improved their efficiency. At the rear, there’s a new shape for the light clusters along with a slightly redesigned bumper. The manufacturer has also introduced new wheel designs and paint colours (e.g, the Outremer blue shade visible in the photos).
The biggest improvements, however, focus on comfort. Thanks to the use of triple-laminated front and side windows, better seals and a new shape of the wing mirrors, acoustic comfort was significantly improved. The manufacturer claims these changes reduced the noise levels by as much as 8 dB! The seats were also redesigned to make them more comfortable and the cabin finish was upgraded.
Under the bonnet, the same engines remain, but thanks to changes in their software and the transmission software, they are now more fuel-efficient and quieter. The suspension has also been retuned — once again, with a primary focus on comfort.
Renault has certainly done its homework. It has improved the Austral where it was needed, while keeping its previous strengths. It’s probably too late to conquer the segment, but the refreshed Renault Austral is definitely a much better car now.
About the miniature – Renault Austral
This facelifted Renault Austral is my latest purchase. The model appeared unexpectedly on the Renault Originals website at the end of August. Alongside it, the facelifted Espace was also released. However, for now, I decided to purchase only the smaller model. The main reason, in fact, was the colour. The Austral in its new Outremer Blue shade looks very nice, whereas the grey-silver Espace doesn’t stand out in any particular way. Therefore, I decided to wait for other colour options before considering the Espace.
The Austral miniature was, of course, made by Norev. As with other recent releases from the manufacturer, the side mirrors are mounted separately, which is a big plus. As usual, the paintwork is one of the strong points. The Outremer Blue color looks beautiful. Interestingly, Renault already used this name back in the 1990s, though it referred to a completely different shade of blue. Another highlight is the detailing of the grille – Norev did a good job capturing its intricate pattern.
As for the downsides, it’s typical for Renault models by Norev to lack a rearview mirror and the wheels to be entirely plastic. The rear light clusters are also a bit of a disappointment – they’re just a painted piece of plastic. The completely black interior is less of an issue this time, as the real car also has a dark interior.
